Preservation and adaptive reuse of “the Farm”

MAP 17

The Friends of Johnston, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the conservation, preservation, restoration and sustainable adaptive reuse of the Johnston Estate, purchased the Amanda (“Johnnie”) Johnston Leckonby residence and outbuildings, including an early 19th century Pennsylvania bank barn, at 1311 Santee Mill Road in the city of Bethlehem. The 2015 purchase by the organization from Archibald Johnston’s descendants was another landmark in enlarging the core properties beyond the 2005 bequest of the nearby “Big House” and 55 acres to Bethlehem Township by Janet Johnston Housenick to today’s 137 acres available to the public.

Integral to the work of the Friends of Johnston is connecting residents of the region to nature by providing educational and volunteer opportunities throughout the year. The work of the Friends is made possible primarily by donations and volunteers. Volunteer programs are available for all age groups.
